How to: make your lipstick last
I have a love/hate relationship with lipstick. My growing collection of colors from a range from brands calls to me every morning when I'm getting ready. Lately a bright color on my lips makes me feel slightly happier during these dark winter days -- it may be winter on my feet but my lips scream summer. Plus a bold color makes me look more awake on the sleepiest days because it draws attention away from my droopy eyes.
The downside? It never lasts.
I like to eat. A lot. That means several applications throughout the day.
My water bottle at my desk is covered in pink lipstick. I hope no one asks for a sip.
The cold weather basically makes my lips fall off. It seems no amount of lip balm keeps the flakes away and even lipsticks touted as moisturizing leave mine feeling like a desert. I end up picking or biting my chapped lips -- just to reapply another coat of lipstick.
But I have a trick to making your lipstick last (at least through a meal but probably not through a make out session). First, use a lip scrub to exfoliate, I like Fresh Sugar Lip Polish (bonus: it tastes good). Rinse and dry off then apply a small amount of your favorite lip balm (I'm a Rosebud fan). Then apply a coat of lipstick. Go bold or go home, I say. Blot with a tissue then dust a little face powder all over your lips -- you can use your fingers or a brush but you don't need much. Finally, add a second coat and blot if you need to. Now go show off your sexy pout!
I also have a recent favorite lipstick that lasts: Illamasqua.
I'm currently wearing Illamasqua Lipstick in Atomic, it's a bold fuchsia violet that makes a serious statement.
I'll do a post later on how to do that half-moon mani!

It's highly pigmented and has a great matte finish. I find creamy textures may feel better on the lips at first but they're easier to smear and make my lips drier. Illamasqua doesn't feel like there's anything on my lips and is almost smudge proof. After eating lunch it had barely faded -- I only touched up in the center of my mouth.
The other color I keep in my purse is Immodest -- a neon hot pink. It seriously feels like summer. You can see the two colors below, Immodest on the left (the photo doesn't do justice) and Atomic on the right.
