15 ways to spend your tax returns
If you're like me, spending money is a rarity. Every penny goes towards rent, bills, and food. When I come across a little extra pocket cash, my eyes widen at the thought of what I can do with it -- even if it's an extra $10 (hello, I can buy a nice steak at Trader Joe's with that). I filed my taxes as soon as I had all my documents because I wanted my hard-earned money back ASAP! It may not be a lot to some, but to me, I'm currently rich. My advice? Don't go crazy with it. Save most of it, pay off some debt, but do treat yourself because I'm sure you deserve it.
1. Take a vacation. Even a mini weekend vacation. It'll de-stress you.
2. Buy a bottle of wine that's more than $10. Because you finally can.
3. Invest in a nice tote bag. Maybe not a Louis Vuitton but you can score a nice Michael Kors handbag for a reasonable price. Buy one that'll work for future job interviews.
4. Buy a nice saute pan. That thrift store purchase will only last for so long.
5. Lack seating in your apartment? Invest in a chair. Even an ottoman will do (bonus: more storage!)
6. Commit to a music festival. Especially if you've never been to one.
7. Buy someone else a drink. A lot of people buy me drinks...it feels good to return the favor.
8. Pay off your debt. Even if that just means making a payment that's slightly more than the minimum.
9. Buy a nice pair of shoes. My $30 shoes don't last very long when I'm walking everywhere. Find a good quality pair whether it's heels or boots. Your feet will thank you.
10. And those shoes you've had for years but the soles are worn off? Now's the time to get those fixed.
11. Treat yourself to a hair cut at a salon, not at a school where you normally get your $20 cuts from a student.
12. Get a pedicure and manicure. You'll be painting your own nails for the rest of the year (or until you get a better paying job).
13. Do something you wouldn't normally do unless you had money. Go to a sports game (don't worry, I'll go to a Knicks game but I'll forever be a Blazers fan!), pay for a museum exhibit, take someone on a date.
14. How old are your sheets and bedding? If your first thought was "uhhh," then upgrade to some nice sheets. Especially if yours looks like you're still in high school.
15. Eat. Bacon. Steak. Whatever. No more $1 pizza for you. At least for the next month.
