Abercrombie models, sleepless nights, and bacon
I wrote a list of 20 things to do in your 20s that includes things I haven't done yet, but plan to. New York is probably one of the easiest places to accomplish this list, as there are so many people to meet and adventures to have.
Take for example #5: Start talking to a complete stranger. Learn their story.
A few days ago I had a rough commute which resulted in my train getting rerouted because of signal problems or some shit so it dropped me off at a station unfamiliar to me where I waited for another train to take me back uptown before I walked almost two miles home at midnight. Phew. But in the process I met a guy at the station who just moved here from Colorado and is an Abercrombie model. We started talking and he gave me his number so I can show him around. I think I can find time for that.
A few hours before that I was grabbing a $1 slice of pizza after work and started chatting with the man standing at the same table as me. He was from Africa and moved here to become an engineer. We talked about how much we love NYC and then we parted ways.
Another thing? Stay up late. Well, I tend to do that too much.
A week ago I went out, never went to bed, and went to work at 8:30 am. I got home at 7 am to quickly freshen up and change and no one could tell I hadn't slept. It was a struggle, but I did it, although I mostly walked around like a zombie and crashed immediately after work.
This past Saturday I went out, went to bed at 4 am and woke up at 7 am (yes, on a Sunday) for a work meeting. I ended up doing a 13 hour day on 3 hours of sleep. I truly am the energizer bunny.
And #7: Eat everything you want.
After going to Radegast Beer Garden in Williamsburg on Saturday and enjoying a liter of beer and some bratwurst, then drinking at Phebe's, a bar filled with the douchiest, frattiest Jersey boys in plaid button-downs, I got a slice of pizza with bacon from Ray's Pizza then a corndog at Papaya Dog. Between my work meeting and work on Sunday I picked up 1.79 pounds of food at a cafe and ate it all. I quite enjoyed it; I'm sure not doing that when I'm 30.
