How does one simply move across the country?

Three days and counting. I've gone through my entire closet and now have six overflowing bags of clothes and shoes I'm getting rid of. I'm hoping to get money for some of the decent stuff, but the shoes that are trashed from Syracuse winters and beer spills at frats are done for. Now to the packing!

This is a struggle because I'm not temporally going to college where I'll be back for winter break and summer and get to come home to clothes and childhood memories that couldn't come with me. It's starting to hit me that I'm actually MOVING out and it's weird. Am I ready? Can I do this? Can't I just go back to college? I wish I were Harry Potter so I could shrink my bedroom to fit in my pocket.

So, how does one do it? With help. I am so grateful right now for all the people in my life who are helping me with this transition. I feel so incredibly loved. My neighbor is helping me ship boxes at an incredible discount so I only have to bring what I need now in suitcases. My friend and cousin are letting me crash at their apartments till I get my own. Another friend helped me sell my car for some extra cash. And I know my parents will do whatever it takes to help me get on my feet.

So while I'm sitting here beginning to stress about how much I still need to pack, I know people got my back. And it's a wonderful feeling.

  1. While I love reading these, this is so tough to bear, knowing that you are moving out and not just going away for the school year. I am so proud of you. I could not have done this when I was your age. You have the confidence to do what it takes and this will carry you through the tough times, not to mention the support of friends and family.
    Love, mom
