Caffeine please, it's my first day of work

Today was my first day at my internship! I felt like such an adult getting up before noon and commuting to work in NYC, falling asleep on the packed subway like everyone else. The commute to the office from where I'm staying takes about an hour (just enough time for me to stop sweating from this humidity) and I had just enough time to get my usual iced latte from Starbucks (conveniently located across the street) before heading into the office for the first time.

Everyone was nice and very stylish and even though it's only been one day, I think I will love this. I began researching and pitching story ideas right away and wrote one of them that will go up on the website tomorrow morning. The girls that sit around me all wear the latest trends and don the hottest lipstick. The beauty director I work under has a desk full of makeup samples. In the back there's a large photo studio. I almost had a Danielle moment on my first day though...I was given a broken chair without knowing it was broken and almost fell face first into my desk when I sat down. Thankfully I handled it gracefully and I don't think anyone noticed. Then I asked for another chair.

During lunch I wandered nearby to a deli that has pretty much everything--salad bar, paninis, buffet, drinks, and an endless amount of snacks. I can't even begin to tell you the feelings I had as I walked the streets of Manhattan during my lunch break; I'm pretty sure everyone noticed the smile on my face.

It's all so surreal to think that last week I was enjoying summer in Portland and now I'm a working adult in NYC working towards my dream career. All I can say is, I'm proud of myself.
