Makeup that will last as long as you do

The NYC lifestyle is quite different from anywhere else. It's the city that never sleeps, where many of its inhabitants spend two or three hours a day commuting to and from a nine-hour work day, and then finish with a few too many martinis afterwards.

It's also a city where you can't just roll out of bed, pat on some concealer, and jump into a pair of your everyday jeans before hitting the streets. This lifestyle is about impression, even if it means only impressing your neighbors squeezed in next to you on the subway. You have to look sharp and ready to tackle anything because you never know who you'll run into. Seriously, it's a big city but it's still a small world.

So that eyeliner you applied at 8 am? Yea, it's probably gone at 5 pm. If it's not from the humidity in the summer or the blustery weather in the winter, it's from you dozing off with your head in your hand on the subway (or in the office) or just simply because you run around this city like a maniac hoping to make it big one day.

I have the tricks to looking good from 6 am to midnight, so you can impress your boss bright and early and your hot date later after work. I luckily became obsessed with anything waterproof when I was a swimmer and still have not been able to settle for anything less. It started with mascara, but now I wear everything that is waterproof, long-lasting, or whatever the marketing ploy is.

My favorite eyeshadow to use is Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo Eyeshadow in Bad to the Bronze. It's the perfect bronzy gold to go from day to night and it literally lasts all day long. It's highly saturated so a little goes a long way, meaning you're getting a lot for your buck. I also recently started using Estée Lauder Pure Color Stay On Shadow Paint in Halo. It's a good light color I tend to use as a base and like to blend it with grays for a subtle smokey eye. It lasts throughout my work day but I find the Maybelline shadow lasts longer.

When I want to feel extra sassy I pair those shadows with a cat eye using Revlon Colorstay Gel Eyeliner. It's honestly the first gel eyeliner I've used and I've been extremely pleased with how long it lasts without smudging.

For those days where gel eyeliner feels like too much, I use Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil. It's easy to lightly line the eyes or make it thick for more drama and it also lasts all day. Eyeliner on your lower lid tends to make you look more tired and it smudges easier so I usually just stick to my upper lids.

I finish off with a waterproof mascara. I don't know if you have this problem but I tend to try different mascaras and always go back to my favorite. Right now I'm using L'Oreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara and I like it, but my lashes don't stay as curled as with other mascaras and it tends to flake. Something you definitely don't want when you're on the go. I bought it because I wanted a mascara that was good for building volume without becoming clumpy, which this is good for. Before I was using Maybelline The Falsies, which I really liked, but it did tend to clump if I applied too much.

A little bronze eyeshadow, a subtle cat eye, and a few layers of mascara. Hello gorgeous.
