Roaches, roaches everywhere.
This past month has been rough for me, hence why I haven't written anything.
Good news is I have a new roommate. And she's been really proactive about killing the cockroaches in my apartment. She cleared the entire kitchen and put down boric acid everywhere to kill the suckers and it's seemed to help. I haven't seen any in the sink for awhile, even after I leave food and dirty dishes for a few hours.
But apparently they found a new hiding spot: my coffee machine. We were about ready to jump up and down thinking we had won the war against the little beasts until I woke up one Friday morning, ill with a cold, stumbling into the kitchen with my eyes barely open and in desperate need of caffeine. I opened my coffee maker to find a cockroach egg. Right there in the top. It had hatched. And about 20 little white roaches were running around. TWENTY. Absolutely horrifying. Welcome to Brooklyn.
I stood there in shock just staring at them. I didn't know what to do. I had made coffee the day before and I KNOW for certain that egg wasn't there. I grabbed the boric acid and poured it all over the babies and waited till work to get my coffee fix.
I bought vinegar on my way home thinking I was going to clean the coffee machine. But when I got home there was a new coffee maker my roommate had bought! So we threw out mine and it took me about a week before I made coffee again.

I may not have acquired any skills in my field of study while living in New York yet, but at least I can add 'Roach Exterminator Extraordinaire' to my resume. I'd hire me ;) :D
ReplyDeleteI'd hire you...I'll pay you in wine and Sam Adams.
