Fourth of July in NYC

What happens when I sneak a water bottle filled with vodka and Red Bull into a lesbian bar? I get drunk and give my number to a woman.

I had Fourth of July off from work and began my day at Brighton beach. It was the first beach I've been to in NYC. It was crowded but not too bad, the weather was perfect, and the water was just right for swimming. There were also lifeguards everywhere, something I'm not used to. It took me about 1 1/2 hours to get there via subway and a family offered me a cold beer on the way. So I happily sipped the Coors Light as I watched them get drunker. I soaked up the sun for a few hours before heading home to change for the night.

I met up with my friend from work and a few of her friends. Being broke, I brought my own vodka hidden in my purse. The fireworks show was in New Jersey over the Hudson River so we walked towards the piers on 34th but couldn't get far with the massive crowd of people. We saw some of the show from the street but I'm at the point where fireworks are all the same - they're loud, bright, pollute the sky, and cost a lot of money.

After we walked for what seemed like several miles (I was also in 4-inch wedges), we ended up at a well-known lesbian bar called Cubbyhole. Gay or not, anyone can enjoy this place. The decor is funky - holiday-themed decorations hang from the ceiling - the atmosphere is welcoming, and the jukebox plays all your favorite music from the 90s.

I had my friends hide me as I poured the contents of my water bottle into a real glass. I didn't have to worry about guys hitting me on (although there was one creep) and we just danced like we didn't care. At the end of the night a woman bought me a beer so we started chatting. We both love to cook so I told her we should have a potluck. She said "just the two of us?" I looked at her and awkwardly said "No....let's get EVERYONE together!" But then I gave her my number and she texted me the next day. Still think I gave off the wrong impression. Great bar though.
