I'm back! With plenty more stories to share
I'm back...by popular demand.
Sorry I've been MIA, I could say I've been extremely busy (which I have) but that's a lame excuse for not writing. I'm back to tell you that I'm still alive and well in NYC and plan to keep you all updated on my life here as best as I can.
To start, I'm still working at Victoria's Secret, using my amazing skills and smiles to sell bras and sweatsuits to demanding tourists who should instead give me their money and/or invite me to travel with them. It's exhausting. My feet hurt. I come home from a nine hour day and just want to lay on my bed in silence. I'm convinced I'm going deaf from the loud music, people constantly talking in my ear over the walkie, and customers asking in rough english where the bathroom is.
But life is still amazing even though I'm not where I want to be yet. I wake up everyday happy just knowing I live in this city that I fall in love with more and more each day.
My mom and Greg, her manfriend, (she laughs when I say boyfriend, so quoting Sex and the City, he shall now be her manfriend) came to visit me in February for her birthday. They arrived on the day of the snowstorm, just in time for the airports to shut down. I met them at their hotel, the New York Athletic Club, near Central Park when it was a blizzard outside. I had many plans for us to wander the city and sightsee, but it was just too damn cold so we ate and drank around the island of Manhattan instead. It was a delicious weekend.
Her manfriend spoiled us with wine at every restaurant, and even bought small bottles of wine on Sunday morning during a harbor cruise around the city. I never thought I'd say I'd be wine'd out. We also drank wine out of souvenir cups with straws during Wicked.
Their first night in NYC we had a fancy dinner at the Lotos Club. I ordered my favorite meal in the whole wide world: bacon wrapped filet mignon. Oh and I started with fois gras, and wine, of course.
On Saturday we went to Eataly to eat and be merry. It's a giant food market basically, with small eateries scattered inside amongst food and produce to buy. Then we went to Artichoke Pizza to eat and drink more. Then to McSorley's to drink a lot more and eat some extremely spicy mustard with cheese and crackers. Greg brought us to McSorley's because he used to go there and it's the oldest Irish pub in NYC. There's sawdust on the floor to soak up the beer and you can only order light or dark. That's it. And it's great. I ended up going there on St. Patrick's Day and had to wait in line to get in.
On Sunday my mom and I went to the 9/11 Memorial and explored SoHo a bit before she left. Overall, it was a great weekend with memories that will last a lifetime.
That was in February. I'll bring you up to date with my future posts.
